CENTER PANEL

Browsing Assets

  • The main window of the interface is the asset browser. This shows thumbnails for the assets in the database.
  • In the bottom border of the asset browser are controls for:
    • resizing the thumbnails
    • making thumbnails square or rectangular
    • opening a metadata table view (details later)
  • In that bottom border you can also see how many assets are currently loaded.
  • If you scroll to the bottom of the asset view itself, you find controls for loading more assets.

Selecting Assets

  • Click on an asset to select it.
    • Note the green border that indicates the asset is selected. This will be more prominent in the next update.
    • Click a selected asset to deselect it, cmd-select multiple assets, or shift-select consecutive assets.
    • You can also deselect all selected assets at once by clicking a small “x” that will appear at the top of the BROWSING ASSETS view whenever any assets are selected.

Inspecting Assets

  • Double click an asset to inspect it in the “lightbox” view. In this view you can:
    • Inspect the asset closely
    • Pan and zoom
  • In the top resizeable border of the lightbox view you can:
    • See the asset’s metadata
    • Use the gear icon to add more metadata fields
    • Create a downloadable package of the asset and its metadata (not yet implemented for video clips)
    • Click the “X” or use the escape key to exit lightbox view.

Simple Term Search

  • At the top of the screen is a line where you can enter simple search terms.
  • Type slowly and you’ll see word completion suggestions for existing keywords.
  • This will also launch a "SIMPLE SEARCH" widget in the right column.
  • Disable "Exact matches" in the search widget to include closely related terms and spellings in your search.
  • You can clear a simple term search by deleting the text, clicking the small “x” next to the text, or deleting the simple search widget that it created in the right column of the screen.

LEFT COLUMN

  • (The left column of the UI can be hidden or resized.)

Browsing Folders

  • On the top left side of the screen are hierarchical browsing folders. You can expand these and select individual folders, cmd-select multiple folders, or shift-select consecutive folders.
  • Click on a selected folder to de-select it.
  • The total contents of all your selected folders defines a collection of assets that you can save, or perform additional search in.
  • Note that you can’t close an expanded browsing folder if any of its subfolders are selected.

Collections

  • Expand the COLLECTION folder to create Smart Collections and Simple Collections
  • Smart Collections are saved searches that will update automatically as assets that match the search are added or removed from the database.
  • Right click on a Smart Collection to get a menu with options for editing the collection or restoring its search widgets.
  • Simple Collections are folders that you can create and drag assets into.

MetaData

  • Expand the METADATA folder to see metadata for whatever assets you have selected.
  • Use the gear icon to add more metadata fields to the list.
  • Clicking on the binoculars icon next to a metadata field to launches a facet search widget for it in the right column of the interface.

RIGHT COLUMN

  • (The right column of the UI can be hidden or resized.)
  • The right column of the interface is known as the “racetrack”. Here you can add a variety of search widgets. For now these will typically be Facet search widgets but more will be added for color search, maps, etc.
  • Your final search results will be the assets containing values for all of the keywords you’ve specified in the facet search widgets, plus the simple term search, that are found in your browsing folder selections.

FACET: KEYWORD search widgets

Click on either of the Add Widget buttons to add a FACET:KEYWORD search widget.

  • Use the gear icon in the widget header to select the facet you want to search.
  • Select, cmd-select, or shift-select the keywords that appear in the widget window. You’ll see the asset collection change.
  • Click on a selected keyword to deselect it, or click the small "x" at the bottom of the widget next to the number of facets selected to deselect all keywords.
  • Click the pie chart icon at the bottom of the facet widget to see the keywords in an interactive pie chart view.
  • Click the header bar at the top of the widget to minimize it or expand it.
  • The “SAVE” button at the bottom of the racetrack creates a smart folder of your search.
  • The “CLEAR” button at the bottom of the racetrack deselects all selected assets and removes all search.

TABLE VIEW

  • Use the button in the lower right corner of the asset browser to open or close the resizable table view.
  • Use the gear icon to select metadata fields that will define the columns of your table. Clicking the “Sync with Metadata View” button in the upper right corner lets you see your table metadata fields in the Metadata View (bottom of the left column on the interface).
  • Column headers can be resized.
  • Click the small triangle icon on the right side of a column header to sort that column in ascending order. Click again to sort in descending order. Cmd-click to turn off sorting.
  • Assets you select in the table are also selected in the asset browser and vice versa.
